Gooey, Sticky Slime

With the events happening here and there and the kids being in school for a longer period, I am faced with the dilemma. How can I continue with doing the activities with the children and sustain their interests in sensory activities, arts and crafts? My answer? I challenged myself to at least just have ONE activity done with the children per week. Just one and I'll see how the children pick it up. I already heard Katie yesterday that we haven't done any technique lately, so I should resolve to keep this ONE ACTIVITY A WEEK CHALLENGE- just to spruce things up between the daily routines and to keep connected with my children as they try different activities and materials.

Now, it's thursday and after getting the pantry organized, I found some glutinous rice flour that was already expired and turned it into this:

Now I wonder what Halloween activity can be up for next week? Hmmmm, perhaps some silly Picasso inspired- monster faces? :) ohhh goodie, goodie!

Overhead projector fun

We're glad that our order from Amazon.uk.com came on time! The color paddles  and power polygons are addition to our light table explorations. But we also got today the second hand overhead projector that I got for a good price from Marktplaats. The kids were so excited to see the projected image on the wall. Looking forward to more light activities!!!

Next time that we show a new gadget to the kids, I will try to do object-based looking that I happened to read about from Art Project: Overhead Projector from Rachelle of Tinkerlab.

We're at it again with light exploration

We've been at it again exploring with light...this time with another new toy. Boy am I loving Marktplaats! Second hand items but first time pleasures for our little ones... Will be posting more pictures and documentation soon!

A New Addition to Our Playtime

Early childhood educators have always emphasized the importance of light exploration to young children. You might be wondering, what exactly is the light table for ?

The light table allows children to explore colors, shadow, and light. Some activities that children can do with the light table are:
a. looking and making shadows
b. exploring colors and color mixing
c. exploring how light affects color
d. drawing on transparent paper
e. doing painting activities
f. exploring the concepts of textures and shapes
g. stringing transparent beads
h.looking closely at details of natural items such as leaves, flowers
i. exploring the human body with x-rays
j. discovering illusions and reflections

In the next coming days we will be exploring the light table more. I just can't wait until our package for the light table arrives... ohhh goodie, goodie! :)
